In the Enterics Category, trainings will cover surveillance and study of the following public health issues: Adenovirus (GI), Astrovirus, Botulism (Clostridium botulinum), Campylobacteriosis (Campylobacter species), Cholera (Vibrio cholerae), Cryptosporidiosis (Cryptosporidium parvum), Cyclosporiasis (Cyclospora cayetanensis), Escherichia coli gastroenteritis (E. coli O157-H7 and other Shigatoxin-positive E. coli from gastrointestinal infection), Food poisoning, outbreak-associated, Giardiasis (Giardia lamblia), Hemolytic uremic syndrome (post-diarrheal illness), Listeriosis (Listeria monocytogenes), Norovirus, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonellosis spp., including typhoid fever (Salmonella serogroup), Sapovirus, Shiga toxin-positive gastroenteritis (enterhemorrhagic E coli and other shiga toxin-producing bacteria), Shigellosis (Shigella species), Staphylococcal enterotoxin B intoxication, Trichinosis (Trichinella spiralis), Yersiniosis (Yersinia species not Y. pestis)  


This course provides step by step guidance on Enteric Case Investigations in REDCap for the following conditions: Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora, Salmonella, Typhoid fever, Paratyphoid fever, Shiga-Toxin producing E. coli (STEC), Shigella, Vibrio, and Yersinia. Starting on 5/13/2024, all case investigations for the above conditions are to be done in the REDCap project titled "Enteric Disease Exposure Questionnaires". 

This course provides informational sheets investigated by the Enterices team. These fact sheets provide general information on a specific foodborne illness, who can get the specific foodborne illness, symptoms, what to do if symptoms are present, how to decrease the likelihood of getting the illness, and treatment.

This course is informational. Resources are available to use and reference when conducting Enteric interviews. The resources will have information on how to conduct interviews and handle challenging scenarios that may occur while interviewing.
